Forum: movies Subject: Copyright question

Hello to all.

Quick question.

On a forum, we recently linked to a copy of the "The Message: The Story of Islam" located here on archive.org. This link was later removed in fear of breaching copyright laws.

What I want to know is does someone here know for sure that it's okay to link to this movie as long as you don't make any money off of it? The reason for linking is just to promote peace between Muslims and non-Muslims and to try and remove some of peoples' ignorance concerning Islam.

Thanks in advance.

Can you give me a link to the item in question? Generally things that are uploaded here are fine to link to, but if someone uploads something that shouldn't be here, we'd like to take it down.

Thanks,

Alexis

Hi! Thanks for replying.

Here are links to the movie:
CD1: http://www.archive.org/details/The_message_story_of_islam
CD2: http://www.archive.org/details/The_message_storyofislam2

FilmCo international productions, the production company seems to be very difficult to locate. It seems that it was set up only for this film (Arabic and English versions as well as the making of) according to this page on imdb:
http://imdb.com/company/co0069896/

I tried to contact Anchor Bay Entertainment but no word from them as yet.

In an interview he conducted during filming of the message, the film's director (Moustapha Akkad) said that the goal behind the film was to try and close the gap between the Muslim world and the West. I'm not sure if this means it's okay to freely distribute it or not. Anyway, thought I'd ask here to see if you guys know anything about it.

Looking forward to your reply.

Neither of them has licensing information on them, so it isn't clear. But as long as you're just linking to them, I'd think you're okay.
